It’s called QR (Quick Response) Code and is very popular in Japan.

As I want to stay up to date and try out the latest technological gadgets on the market, I have created a new djmx sticker encrypted with the QR code.
So keep your eyes open, maybe you will get to see one of my new djmx QR code stickers in your city.

A QR code is not unlike a barcode except that it can carry more information and can be read by many mobile devices with a simple app + camera.

The biggest question people ask after they’ve seen a QR code is usually, “why don’t you just write the message in plain text”. Well, I agreed at first, but now I have a better understanding of what QR codes are about.
They are about minimizing data entry on the mobile device. Because you can encapsulate a URL within a QR code, a person that sees an ad for a mobile site doesn’t have to type a long complicated URL with a numeric keypad, they can just let the camera + app on their phone do the work and take them directly to the site without having to type anything.

QR codes can also encapsulate emails and phone numbers to either call or send a pre-made SMS to a number within the message. This is great for advertising campaigns that require some sort of immediate site visit or vote via SMS. There are endless possibilities.

QR code readers are available for most phones, and message creators and editors are available easily around the web. Play with it for a while and you’ll get the gist of it.
