The DMC World DJ Championship took place at London’s Indig02 this week. The judges of the competition crowned USA DJ Vajra, from Denver, Colorado US as the winner.

Vajra became the proud owner of a gold-plated mixer when he won the world championship in London…

In second place was Izoh from Japan. Also from Japan in third place was Co-Ma. Fourth was JFB from England, fifth place was Brazilian battle DJ Erick Jay, and in sixth place was Denmark’s DJ Graded.

Meanwhile in the competition’s 2011 DMC Battle for World Supremacy (head to head) category first place was Deejay Nelson from France with runner up being Japan’s Norihito.

And in the third category of this big annual turntable battle, the 2011 DMC World Team DJ Battle, the results were: First: Kireek from Japan, Second: Cla Leste from Brazil, and third place USA’s BattleStar (DeeJay Turbulence & Roger Pho aka Phonics!).

DJ Unkut, the first EVER DMC Online Champion could not be competing in the DMC World Final due to health problems. Thats really sad, I would have loved to see DJ Varja and Unkut fight for the crown of turntablism. Get well fast Mr. Unkut!!!

Unkut won the first round of the championship with his Godzilla Porn Routine.

The winner of the Online DJ Championship will join Champions from around the world at the DMC World Finals live event in London on the 6th/7th October 2011.

DMC World Champions LigOne (2010 DMC World Champion), Cutmaster Swift (1989 DMC World Champion) and Switch (3 x DMC World Battle Champion 2008, 2009, 2010) judged the final 10 videos and selected the winner.

NI presents three vids showing some really hot controllerism routines by DMC Champion DJ Rafik using the new NI controllers!

Rafik is showing is high-class skills using his turntable combined with the NI controller MASCHINE and the upcoming X1 hardware. Check the vids, Rafik is really choppin it up.

DMC Champion DJ Rafik Performs on Traktor Scratch Pro – Pt. I

Rafik chops up the “Block Rockin’ Beats” sample from the Chemical Brothers, triggering individual cue points so he can restructure the lick in his own way. On the left deck, he runs a hi-hat that is routed that the Gater, Filter and Beatmasher effects in Traktor, all controlled via the upcoming X1 controller.

For this routine, a vocal sample is loaded into the left deck while MGMT’s “Kids” (Soulwax Remix) is loaded in the right deck. Cue points allow one-shot drumming action with the buttons of the MASCHINE controller. Rafik then drops in a custom guitar lick using the Beatmasher and Gater effects in Traktor, controlled via the X1 hardware.

Rafik chops it up with drums in the left deck, triggered from the X1 controller, and the guitar sample from the previous routine on the second right deck. The Gater effect and an additional LFO filter every 1/4th bar add to a serious wonk session.

DJs Greem, Atom, Pfel & 20Syl make up the French quartet and each use their turntables as instruments recreating drums or bass guitars, scratching a riff of guitar or shearing the brass, to lead to a harmony similar to that of traditional bands.

C2C’s participation in regular competitions has earned them a number of titles including the team DMC Technics Championships in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, Technics DMC French Cup 2001 and French vice-champions 2001 & 2002. Their DMC Technics win in 2003, saw the team achieve a historical double, making them the only team to equal the likes of Q-Bert & The Rock Steady Crew.

Pfel, the last DJ to join the crew also has an impressive collection of solo competitions trophies including DMC France Champion 2003 and 2004 in the category “Battle for World Supremacy” as well as ITF French Champion 2003.

C2C’s rise, has led them to perform all around Europe with the likes of Q-Bert, A-Track, The Scratch Perverts & DJ Vadim to name a few. Exploiting to the maximum their human skills alongside their equipment (made up of mixers effects, feedback, Larsens..)

The C2C show is breathless for the listener; from linking hip hop & funk classics to the musical and technical dexterity of the unparalleled talent of the foursome with each individual allowed the time to shine during their complex sequences.

Beattorrent

Currently a duo-project by DJ Pfel & Atom goes by the name of Beattorrent. The Beattorrent show is an intense 90 minute journey through hip hop and electronica mixed with jaw dropping precision and skill, on 4 decks.

Their unique shows sees them remix classic tunes as varied as Pumpkin & HunnyBunny/Misirlou (THAT guitar track from the movie Pulp Fiction ) and Sure Shot (Beastie Boys) as well as creating their own compositions on the turntables.

I am planning to visit one of the Beattorrent shows in Paris sometime. If I get to see Beattorrent live on stage, I will report my impressions here on my blog.
