Craze is using the X1 to trigger cue points on both decks while performing some serious beatjuggling.

Combining traditional vinyl techniques like juggling, scratching and body tricks with advanced controller-based functions such as cue point manipulation, tempo-synced effects and ultra-quick track changes, this performance showcases the cutting edge of turntablism and controllerism using the latest digital DJing technology.

Regarding to Qbert it’s mainly only up to the software. Both systems contain well developed and stable hardware and it is hard to put one system up front.

Famous graffiti artist Banksy presents his debut film “Exit Through The Gift Shop”. The movie premiered at the Sundance Filme Festival back in January.

Exit Through The Gift Shop is billed as ‘the world’s first street art disaster movie’ and contains exclusive footage of Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Invader, and many of the world’s most infamous graffiti artists at work.

NI presents three vids showing some really hot controllerism routines by DMC Champion DJ Rafik using the new NI controllers!

Rafik is showing is high-class skills using his turntable combined with the NI controller MASCHINE and the upcoming X1 hardware. Check the vids, Rafik is really choppin it up.

DMC Champion DJ Rafik Performs on Traktor Scratch Pro – Pt. I

Rafik chops up the “Block Rockin’ Beats” sample from the Chemical Brothers, triggering individual cue points so he can restructure the lick in his own way. On the left deck, he runs a hi-hat that is routed that the Gater, Filter and Beatmasher effects in Traktor, all controlled via the upcoming X1 controller.

DMC Champion DJ Rafik Performs on Traktor Scratch Pro – Pt. II

For this routine, a vocal sample is loaded into the left deck while MGMT’s “Kids” (Soulwax Remix) is loaded in the right deck. Cue points allow one-shot drumming action with the buttons of the MASCHINE controller. Rafik then drops in a custom guitar lick using the Beatmasher and Gater effects in Traktor, controlled via the X1 hardware.

Rafik chops it up with drums in the left deck, triggered from the X1 controller, and the guitar sample from the previous routine on the second right deck. The Gater effect and an additional LFO filter every 1/4th bar add to a serious wonk session.

Roc Raida was an American DJ, turntablist, producer and member of the legendary DJ group, The X-Ecutioners. He won the 1995 DMC World DJ Championship and was inducted into the the DMC Hall of Fame four years later.

After the tragic death of Grand Master Roc Raida, a string of benefit gigs took place, but the one happening in NYC, perhaps has been one of the biggest gathering of scratch DJs seen in a very long time.

The event took place at the BB King Blues in NYC on the 22nd of October 2009. All kind of legendary DJs came together to pay their respects, share fond memories and raised some cash for Raida’s family.

You just have to take a look at the roll call to see that this event has been very special. The X-Ecutioners, X-men, Beat Junkies, a reunion of the Allies Craze and A-Trak. Performances by DJ Z-Trip, DJ Q-Bert, DJ Scratch, Roli Rho, I-Dee, DJ Dummy, Slyce and current DMC champion Shiftee.
All this got rounded off by a performance by D.I.T.C. Normally, such a list would be nearly impossible to pull together, but they were all coming together to perform to honour Roc Raida. Big ups to all those performing and involved in organising this.

I really hope the event got recorded. I will definitly buy the DVD if one comes out. Be sure to pick up one yourself to support Roc Raida’s family.
